'Murdered' youth found alive after two years, contractor protests jail term
Police have found alive Mustafa Kamal, 28, two years after he was reported murdered in a case filed in Kishoreganj's Kuliyarchar. Kamal was found working as a mason in Gazipur's Gacha area, where he had started a new family after going into hiding.
His mother had filed a murder case against contractor Zaman Mia, alleging that Kamal was killed over a financial dispute. Zaman Mia spent four months in jail before the investigation revealed Kamal was alive. Police recovered Kamal on July 9, and his statement was recorded in court on July 10.
Kuliyarchar Police Station OC Kazi Arif Uddin said preliminary investigation suggests Kamal's family members knew of his whereabouts but did not inform police for two years.
Zaman Mia, who was jailed despite being innocent, has demanded justice against the false case, saying his business and reputation have been ruined.
Police said legal action will be taken against anyone found to have filed the case with false information.
