Muslim leaders urged to come forward to achieve 'Three Zeros' theory
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, called on Muslim world leaders to work collectively toward achieving zero poverty, zero unemployment, and zero net carbon emissions.
Speaking as the chief guest at the 'International Social Business Summit (ISBS) 2025', held at Hotel Bengal Blueberry in Gulshan, Dhaka, Hasan emphasized the need for strong social responsibility and the adoption of effective social business models to tackle poverty, unemployment, and environmental challenges.
She highlighted the negative effects of modern capitalism and warned that failure to change the current economic model could result in severe climate consequences, including submerging nations by the end of the century.
Referring to Islamic principles such as justice and zakat, Hasan noted their potential as alternative economic models, particularly in addressing inequality and supporting marginalized communities.
She also criticized the silence of the Muslim world on humanitarian crises, specifically the killing of innocent Palestinians, stating that moral courage is essential for meaningful unity.
The summit featured speakers including Turkey's Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Prof Dr Halis Yunus Ersöz,, Grameen Bank Chairman Dr Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Fuzul Finance Inc. Chairman Eyup Akmal, and Sawab Chairman S.M. Rasheduzzaman.
