MyTV Chairman placed on 5-day remand

A Dhaka court has granted a five-day remand for Nasir Uddin Sathi, chairman of the private television channel MyTV, in connection with the murder of Asadul Haque Babu during an anti-discrimination movement in the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zia Uddin Ahmed passed the order on Monday after CID Inspector Khan Md. Erfan, the investigating officer, produced the accused before the court and sought a seven-day remand. Nasir was present during the hearing.

The accused was arrested on August 17 from the capital’s Gulshan area.

According to case details, on August 5 last year, Asadul Haque Babu participated in an anti-discrimination protest on a paved road in the Jatrabari area. Around 2:30 PM, he was shot in the chest and right side, allegedly by the accused. He was taken to the hospital where doctors declared him dead.

On August 30, Asadul’s father, Zainal Abedin, filed a murder case with Jatrabari Police Station, naming 25 individuals including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In the case, Nasir Uddin is listed as the 22nd accused, while his son Tawhid Afridi is named as the 11th accused.
