A special court in Dhaka today, July 27, issued arrest warrants against three journalists, including former editor of the country's Daily Bangladesh Pratidin Naem Nizam, in connection with a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA).

The two other accused are Bangladesh Pratidin publisher Moynal Hossain Chowdhury and Bangla Insider editor Syed Borhan Kabir.

Judge Nur-e-Alam of the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal issued the arrest warrants after the accused failed to appear in court despite being summoned. The court granted the prosecution’s request for the warrants.

The tribunal also set August 28 for submission of the report on execution of the order, court bench official Jewel Miah told media.

Supreme Court lawyer Barrister M Sarwar Hossain filed the case against seven individuals on February 15, 2022. The court had earlier directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to probe the matter and submit a report.

CID Sub-Inspector Torikul Islam filed the investigation report on November 20, 2024, implicating the three accused.

The court accepted the charge sheet on June 2, 2025, and summoned the accused to appear before it on July 27.
