In a brazen daylight robbery, armed assailants disguised as members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) stole Tk 1,08,44,000 in Uttara's Sector 13 on Saturday morning (June 14).

According to Uttara West Police, the incident took place around 8:00am on Road No. 12 when four men, wearing RAB uniforms and arriving in a black microbus and two motorcycles, intercepted a group carrying cash. The victims, employees of a Nagad cash distribution agent, were en route from the residence of local distributor Abdul Khalek Nayan to the Nagad office, located a five-minute walk away.

Eyewitnesses and the victims reported that three of the men were forced into the microbus at gunpoint, along with one of the bags containing cash. The robbers later released the hostages in Sector 17 and fled with the money.

Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Division (DMP) Mohidul Islam said that the stolen amount was carried on two motorcycles. One of the bags, containing Tk 1.08 crore, was taken, while another bag, holding just over Tk 1 lakh, was saved by one employee who managed to escape.

The police are treating the case with high priority and have begun analyzing CCTV footage and the microbus's number plate. No arrests have been made yet, and no formal case has been filed, but four representatives of the Nagad agent are currently in custody for questioning.

"There are concerns about how such a large sum was being transported early in the morning on a weekend, and why it was kept at the distributor’s house," said DC Mohidul. "This raises suspicion, especially with the claim that over Tk 1 crore was on a single motorcycle. There could be insider involvement."
