Nahid demands July Manifesto and Charter by August 5
National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam has demanded the preparation of the July Manifesto and July Charter by August 5. He also called on the public to join a foot march starting Monday, July 1, to raise awareness and build momentum.
In a Facebook post on Monda June 30, Nahid announced the launch of a month-long foot march across all districts, titled “July Foot March to Build the Nation,” aimed at listening to voices of those who took part in the historic July mass uprising.
According to Nahid, the July Manifesto will serve as a national document recognizing the contributions of martyrs, injured, and leaders of the movement, ensuring political security and defining the aspirations of July. This document is intended to later form the legal and constitutional foundation.
He criticized the government for failing to issue the manifesto despite earlier commitments and called for accountability. “We want the manifesto to be officially issued by the state with a commitment to constitutional inclusion. If the government remains inactive, we will publish our own manifesto and urge other parties to do the same,” Nahid said.
The July Charter, he explained, will outline fundamental reforms, political consensus on constitutional amendments, and implementation methods, such as referendum or parliamentary procedures. The next government will be obliged to continue reforms based on the Charter.
Nahid stressed that both documents should be finalized by August 5. He urged all parties and the government to cooperate for this historic responsibility. Failure to do so, he warned, would strip the government of the authority to lead July commemorations.
The program includes: July 1–30: “July Foot March to Build the Nation”. July 16: Prayer and memorial event for “Anti-Discrimination Martyrs’ Day”. August 3: Reading of the July Manifesto at the Martyrs’ Monument and August 5: Celebration of “Student Mass Liberation Day”.
Nahid invited everyone to participate, emphasizing that the movement will engage with citizens across the country during the march.
