Nahid directs free mobile networks for flood-hit areas

Md Nahid Islam, advisor to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, instructed the relevant authorities to provide free mobile network services in flood-affected areas.

He issued this directive on Thursday (August 22) in a statement addressing the current situation and preparations in the flood-hit areas.

The advisor noted that 10 VSATs are on standby in case of network disruptions and added, "Instructions have been issued to provide free mobile network services in those areas."

"Due to the current flood situation in the country, network disruptions have occurred in some upazilas because of optical fiber damage. In certain areas, electricity has been cut off, and generators are being used. Despite these efforts, 13 percent of the sites in the affected areas remain down," he added.
