Nahid Islam, the candidate of the 11-party alliance and convenor of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has filed an appeal with the Appellate Division challenging a High Court order that dismissed a writ petition seeking the cancellation of BNP-nominated candidate Dr. M A Qayyum's candidacy in Dhaka-11 constituency over allegations of dual citizenship and information concealment.

Nahid Islam's lawyer, Advocate Zahirul Islam Musa, confirmed the matter on Saturday, February 8. He said a hearing on this appeal may be held in a chamber judge's court tomorrow.

Earlier, on February 3, the High Court summarily dismissed a writ petition challenging the validity of BNP-nominated candidate Dr. M A Qayyum's candidacy in Dhaka-11 constituency over allegations of dual citizenship and information concealment. The order was passed by a High Court bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Md. Asif Hassan.

Lawyers Mohammad Hossain Lipu and Advocate Zahirul Islam Musa argued for the writ petitioner in the High Court. Advocate Ahsanul Karim, Barrister Ruhul Kuddus Kajol, Advocate Mahbubur Rahman Khan, and Barrister Kazi Akhtar Hossain argued for Dr. M A Qayyum.

Earlier, on February 2, Nahid Islam filed a writ petition in the High Court challenging the validity of Dr. M A Qayyum's candidacy over allegations of dual citizenship and information concealment. The writ sought a stay on Dr. M A Qayyum's candidacy, naming the Chief Election Commissioner and others as respondents.

It is noteworthy that the Election Commission had earlier validated the nomination papers of both the 12-party alliance candidate Nahid Islam and the BNP-nominated candidate Dr. M A Qayyum, the party's microcredit affairs secretary, for the Dhaka-11 constituency.
