Nahid Islam, Convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has vowed to protect honest and patriotic businessmen from extortionists and criminals. He said, “In the past, a few businessmen turned into mafia leaders, and now a political party is backing them. Meanwhile, our small and medium-sized hardworking businessmen are struggling under the pressure of extortion.”

He made these remarks as the chief guest at a street rally organized by the NCP at Shibbari Intersection in Khulna city on Friday night (July 11).

Nahid Islam said, “The families of martyrs do not want to see a culture of extortion in the new Bangladesh. The martyrs did not sacrifice their lives to create a safe haven for terrorists and extortionists. We have declared that we have achieved a new independence — a second independence. However, some wrongly believe they have gained the freedom to loot. If they think that way, they are seriously mistaken. Just as people rose up against fascists, they must now stand against extortionists and terrorists. We urge the people of Khulna to prepare themselves. We will be coming to Dhaka on August 3 to address these issues.”

He emphasized that the people's uprising remains unfinished, saying, “We have said that the July uprising has no end or conclusion. It marked the beginning of a new Bangladesh — the start of movements by students, youth, and workers. We must keep this movement alive. The National Citizen Party and all the students and youth involved in the uprising are still active on the ground. No matter how much effort or conspiracy is made, you cannot push us out. We will remain in the field, Inshallah.”

“After the people’s uprising, we said the fascist system creates mafias, supports corrupt people, and encourages terrorists. This system turns the police into killers. That system must be ended. It must be overthrown, and a new democratic system must be built. But since August 5, many conspiracies have been made against these students. We saw who went to the cantonment on August 5. They planned to form a government excluding the leaders of the uprising. These student leaders have tried hard to bring this government and current politics towards the uprising. But although some groups who oppose fascism are with us, they are not with us in the movement to build a new system. They support the old system and are doing everything to keep it alive,” Nahid added.
