Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has expressed concerns over the challenges the party is currently facing, citing recent obstacles encountered in various regions, including Gopalganj.

Speaking on Sunday during a meeting with members of the July Martyrs’ family in Chattogram’s New Market area, Nahid said, “We are in a difficult situation. You have seen what happened to us in Gopalganj. We are facing barriers in multiple places.”

Addressing the martyrs’ families, Nahid emphasized the party’s solidarity with them beyond political affiliations. “We did not come to you as a political party. We were part of the uprising. Your family members stood with us, and beyond party politics, we consider ourselves one family,” he said.

Nahid also highlighted ongoing challenges within the administration, pointing to lingering authoritarian influences. “While in government, and through those from our side who served in government, we tried to take initiatives for the July Martyrs’ families. However, these efforts have not reached the grassroots effectively or have been delayed due to remnants of dictatorship in various levels of administration. The respect deserved by the martyrs’ families has yet to be fully recognized,” he added.

The meeting was attended by key NCP leaders including Sarjis Alam, chief organizer of the northern region; joint member secretary Tasnim Zara; and Chattogram coordinator Zobairul Arif.
