Nahid warns government over delay in July Charter
National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam has warned the government against delaying the implementation of the July Charter. He vowed that the party will continue to push for its collection and fulfillment.
Nahid made the statement on Tuesday during the anniversary of the July people's uprising after visiting the grave of martyr Abu Saeed in Babanpur Jafarpur village, Pirganj, Rangpur. This event marked the official launch of NCP’s “July March to Build the Nation” campaign.
“Justice, reform, and a new constitution remain our core demands,” Nahid said. “To build a new Bangladesh, justice must be served, reforms implemented, and a new constitution drafted through a people's council election.”
He criticized the government’s delay tactics, adding, “We will not accept the current foot-dragging. Those who think the street movement has died are mistaken. We will mobilize every village and town and return to the streets. On August 3, we will enter Dhaka and reclaim the July Declaration.”
Nahid also paid tribute to the sacrifice of martyr Abu Saeed, saying their fight against inequality is still unfinished and pledging to realize their vision through the march.
NCP leaders including Secretary Akhtar Hossain, regional organizers, and local leaders joined the grave visit and later met Abu Saeed’s family.
The first-day program of the march includes rallies and processions in Gaibandha and Rangpur, culminating in a rally at Rangpur Town Hall.
The “July March to Build the Nation” campaign was announced on June 29 at NCP’s temporary central office in Dhaka.
