Moazzem Hossain, the father of the deceased housewife Poppy Sultana, filed a murder case with the Niamatpur Police Station in this connection.

Confirming the matter on Wednesday morning, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Niamatpur Police Station Mahbubur Rahman said that the father of the deceased housewife Poppy Sultana filed a murder case last night as the plaintiff. Unknown persons have been made accused in the case.

On Monday night, miscreants slit the throats of a couple and their two children in Bahadurpur village of Bahadurpur union in Niamatpur upazila of Naogaon. The deceased are Habibur Rahman, 35, his wife Popi Sultana of Bahadurpur village, their children Parvez Rahman, 9, and Sadia Akhter, 3.

OC Mahbubur Rahman said that important information has been obtained from the people taken into custody by the police. The interrogation is still ongoing. The mystery of the murder is largely unsolved. The police's detective department, CID team and several other police agencies are working to unravel the mystery of the incident.

The OC also said that the bodies are still in the morgue of Naogaon Sadar Hospital and will be handed over to the families after the autopsy at today.

Locals claim that Habibur's dispute with his family members over land is behind this murder.

According to relatives and local sources, Namir Uddin has five daughters and one son. Recently, he gave 10 bighas of land including a house to his only son Habibur Rahman. On the other hand, he gave 10 kathas of land to the five daughters. There was a dispute between the siblings over the distribution of this land. A case was filed with the police station regarding this dispute between them. A mediation meeting was also held in the village.

Moazzem Hossain, the plaintiff in the case, said, "My son-in-law was given 10 bighas of land by his father along with his house and land. This was the main reason behind his dispute woth his sisters and brothers-in-law. Since then, they planned to make Habibur and my daughter's family destitute. A mediation session was held in the village over the land dispute. There, Habibur's elder sister Dalima's husband and his son threatened to kill my son-in-law and daughter-in-law."

However, the police are not coming to any conclusion on the matter right now. Naogaon Superintendent of Police Mohammad Tariqul Islam said, "Initially, this murder does not seem to be a robbery. It is believed that this murder may have been committed due to a past enmity. Some important information has already been obtained. However, we do not want to come to any conclusions right now. Hopefully, the mystery of this murder will be revealed very soon and the accused will be arrested."
