Narayanganj City Corporation announces Tk 1,600cr budget for FY2026-27

The Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) has announced a Tk 1,060.99 crore budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year, placing emphasis on improving civic services, expanding revenue sources and strengthening financial discipline without imposing additional taxes on residents.

The budget, the 15th since the establishment of the city corporation, was unveiled on Thursday (July 30) by NCC Administrator Advocate Sakhawat Hossain Khan at the Nagar Bhaban auditorium.

Presenting the budget, the administrator said the financial plan had been formulated considering the corporation's fiscal capacity, own-source revenue, development priorities and citizens' expectations. He said the administration aims to enhance transparency, accountability and efficiency in revenue management while creating new income streams instead of increasing the tax burden.

He added that priority has been given to infrastructure development, roads and transport, water supply, waste management, drainage and waterlogging mitigation, primary healthcare, education, culture, sports, dengue and vector-borne disease control, environmental protection, traffic management, street lighting and expansion of technology-driven public services.

According to NCC officials, the city corporation had set a revenue collection target of Tk 214.55 crore for the 2025–26 fiscal year, but collected Tk 159.79 crore, achieving 74.48 percent of the target.

Of the total collection, Tk 80.50 crore came from taxes, Tk 1.14 crore from grants and more than Tk 54.14 crore from other sources.

For the new fiscal year, the corporation has projected Tk 214.76 crore in revenue income.

Officials also noted that the new budget marks a significant increase from the Tk 775.33 crore allocated for the previous fiscal year, reflecting the corporation's broader development agenda and expanded service commitments.

The budget announcement was attended by Acting Chief Executive Officer Nur Kutubul Alam, Narayanganj Zila Parishad Administrator Professor Mamun Mahmud, Narayanganj Development Authority Chairman Masukul Islam Rajib, alongside political leaders, professionals, journalists and members of civil society.
