Narsingdi clash: another body found in Meghna river
Police have recovered the body of another person in a clash between two parties over dominance in Narsingdi's Raipura upazila. The death toll has risen to four. The mother of one of the deceased has also filed a case.
The body was recovered from the Meghna river in Gopinathpur area of Nilakshya union of the upazila, said Raipura police station OC Md. Mojibur Rahman on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased, Abdul Latif, 35, is the son of Shahid Mia of Birgaon Kandapara area of the union. He was wearing a police vest.
The day after the clash, Nasima Khatun, the mother of another deceased, filed a case against 30 people on Wednesday night.
According to information from locals, the number of people killed in the clash has risen to four. However, OC Mojibur Rahman has given information that the police have recovered the bodies of three people so far. He said that locals reported the body floating in the Meghna River in front of Rafiq Member's house in Gopinathpur to the police station. On receiving the information, the police recovered the body, prepared a post-mortem report and sent it to the Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. The police have recovered the bodies of three people.
OC Mojibur Rahman said that if anyone else is reported missing in the clash, they will investigate and take necessary steps.
Earlier, in the clash on Tuesday, the bodies of Bulbul Mia, 35, son of Harju Mia of Sonakandi area of Nilakshya Union, and Anik Mia, 22, son of former UP member Osman Mia of Purbapara area, were recovered, and on Wednesday afternoon, the bodies of Kausar Mia, 35, were recovered from Jitrampur area of Sadar Upazila. The last body was found to be Latif.
Police said that on December 8, 2025, a supporter of the 'Mr. Group' named Mamun was shot dead in a clash with the supporters of the local Joba member in Darigaon village of Nilakshya union of the upazila over the issue of dominance. Since this incident, the accused in the murder case, Joba member, his associate Alal Munshi and their supporters have been absconding. Since then, Joba member's people have been trying to enter the area with hired people in batches.
Joba member and his supporters entered the area with hired gunmen in a speedboat early Tuesday morning. At that time, people of the 'Mr. Group' went to resist them. The clash spread to Haripur and Darigaon areas. Several people were injured, including those who were shot. Later, the police went to control the law and order situation. One person was shot and died on the spot. Later, some of the injured were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Another person died there. In addition, the bodies of two more people were found floating in the river in two days.
