Nashimon driver dies while fixing puncture on highway

A driver died after being hit by a dump truck while repairing a punctured tyre of his nashimon on the side of a highway in Chakaria, Cox's Bazar. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning, May 26, on the Cox's Bazar-Chattogram highway near Malumghat Ideal School in Dulahazara union.

The deceased has been identified as Noyon Uddin, 21, son of Md Hossain of Larpada area in Cox's Bazar Sadar upazila.

According to police and witnesses, Noyon was driving a shallow engine-powered nashimon loaded with rods from Cox's Bazar towards Badarkhali. When he reached Malumghat, the right-side tyre burst. He stopped by the roadside and was repairing the vehicle when a speeding dump truck heading from Cox's Bazar to Chattogram lost control and crashed into the nashimon. Noyon was critically injured.

Highway police and locals rescued him and took him to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex, where the duty doctor declared him dead.

Police claimed the dump truck fled the scene immediately after the accident.

Malumghat Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahbub Rahman said the accident occurred around 4:00 am. The nashimon has been recovered from the scene. Efforts are underway to identify the hit-and-run vehicle. Legal action is pending.
