Heavy criticism and intense discussion have erupted across social media following claims that a mere 700 BDT was handed over as financial assistance to the family of Mujibur Rahman, who was recently shot and killed by the BSF along the Kulaura border in Moulvibazar.

According to local sources, National Citizen Party (NCP) central leader Nasiruddin Patwary and coordinator Sarjis Alam rushed to Kulaura on Friday to stand by the grieving family. However, instead of drawing from party funds, a meager sum of 700 BDT was collected from local residents and presented to the family.

In a video that has since gone viral, Mujibur Rahman’s wife tearfully stated that the family is in extreme distress with four children, including an unborn child. Because the NCP leaders had traveled all the way from Dhaka to visit their home, locals initially assumed the family had received a substantial financial grant. In reality, they were handed just 700 BDT.

Mixed reactions stir the locality
The incident has triggered widespread reactions in the area. A segment of the local population expressed that when public figures visit a deeply affected family under the guise of solidarity but provide merely symbolic or grossly inadequate assistance, it is only natural for serious questions to be raised.

Neither NCP central leader Nasiruddin Patwary nor coordinator Sarjis Alam has issued an official statement regarding the matter. Their responses will be updated as soon as they become available.
