The National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari has been declared "unwelcome" in his home district of Chandpur by leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its affiliated organisations.

The announcement came over allegations that Patwari made "derogatory remarks" about senior BNP leaders.

Chandpur district BNP General Secretary Advocate Salim Ullah Selim made the announcement at a rally in Chandpur town on Wednesday (August 19) marking the founding anniversary of the Jatiotabadi Swechhasebak Dal, the BNP’s volunteer wing.

Selim criticised several of Patwari’s political remarks, saying political opponents should be criticised within the bounds of civility and that criticism of opposition leaders should remain constructive.

He also urged BNP activists to reject Jamaat-e-Islami.

The announcement came after BNP and its affiliated organisations brought out a procession through various streets of Chandpur town as part of the volunteer organisation’s anniversary celebrations. The procession ended in front of the district BNP office, where the rally was held.

This is not the first time Patwari has been declared unwelcome in Chandpur. In September 2025, BNP and its affiliated organisations in the Shahrashti area of the district had also declared him unwelcome.

Wednesday’s announcement marks the second such declaration against the NCP leader in an area of Chandpur.

Patwari did not immediately comment on the latest development.
