The National Citizens Party (NCP) candidate Nasiruddin Patwary has called for a recount in the Dhaka-8 parliamentary seat, alleging electoral irregularities in the February 12 polls.

In a written complaint submitted to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on Saturday (February 14), Patwary accused BNP candidate Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed and his supporters of vote rigging, undue influence, and delaying the announcement of results.

Patwary claimed that numerous invalid votes were illegally counted in favor of Mirza Abbas and alleged direct involvement of presiding and returning officers in these irregularities.

He demanded that the Dhaka-8 results be suspended, an investigation conducted, and legal action taken against the responsible officials.

He also requested that invalid votes be excluded, the results recalculated, and the oath-taking of the newly elected candidate postponed until a proper recount is completed.

According to unofficial results, Mirza Abbas secured 59,366 votes, while Patwary received 54,127 votes in the constituency.
