Nasiruddin, Sarjis among 10 NCP leaders sued over attempted murder
A case has been filed against National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Northern Region Chief Organizer Sarjis Alam, and eight other party leaders over allegations of attempted murder, assault, vandalism and robbery following a clash with leaders and activists of the Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal in Habiganj.
The case was lodged at Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station on Thursday night (July 30) by district Chhatra Dal Joint General Secretary Md. Iqbal Hossain Rokon.
Besides naming 10 accused, the complaint also includes 40–50 unidentified individuals.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the clashes took place between 5:00pm and 8:00pm on July 28 in front of the Court Mosque in Habiganj municipality.
The complainant alleged that NCP leaders and activists, armed with locally made weapons, attacked Chhatra Dal members who had gathered there as part of a central programme to visit the family of July movement martyr Ripon Shil and attend a memorial meeting.
The FIR claims that Nasiruddin Patwari, Sarjis Alam, Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, Mahbubul Bari Chowdhury and others led the attack.
It further alleges that several Chhatra Dal leaders, including Mahfuz Chowdhury and Mozakker Hossain Imon, were injured after being assaulted with iron rods, machetes, sharp weapons and bricks.
The complainant also accused the attackers of snatching multiple mobile phones—including iPhone 15, iPhone 14, iPhone 13 and iPhone 11 handsets—as well as Tk 50,000 in cash during the incident.
According to the complaint, police later arrived at the scene, prompting the accused to leave, while the injured were taken to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital for treatment.
The named accused in the case are NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Northern Region Chief Organizer Sarjis Alam, Habiganj District Jatiya Shakti Convener Nur Alam Chowdhury, Fakhrul Zakir, A. Hai Kamal, Ruham Gazi, District Member Secretary Mahbubul Bari Chowdhury Mubin, Central Coordinator Nahid Uddin Tarek, District Convener Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, and District Committee Member Wadud Mahmud Chowdhury.
The incident has already triggered competing allegations.
Earlier, the NCP accused Chhatra Dal activists of attacking its leaders and supporters during the same incident. The party claimed that at least 15 leaders and activists, including Sarjis Alam, were injured, while one activist lost vision in one eye.
The NCP also said that amid the violence, Nasiruddin Patwari and Sarjis Alam took shelter inside a bank for safety before police escorted them from the area.
Police have yet to issue an official statement on the allegations. However, an official at Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station confirmed that the case had been registered.
