National Consensus Commission tenure extended for one month

The tenure of the National Consensus Commission has been extended for another month, until October 15. A gazette notification in this regard was issued on Monday (September 15) by the Cabinet Division.

According to the notification signed by Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid, the tenure of the National Consensus Commission has been extended until October 15, with immediate effect.

Earlier, on February 12, a seven-member National Consensus Commission was formed under the leadership of Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus. At that time, the commission was given six months to submit its report, which was supposed to end on August 15. As the commission failed to complete its work within the stipulated time, the tenure was first extended to September 15, and now, in the second phase, until October 15.

The commission’s chair is Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, while its vice-chair is Professor Ali Riaz, head of the Constitution Reform Commission.

The other members of the commission are: Ayub Mia of the Public Administration Reform Commission, Safar Raj Hossain, head of the Police Reform Commission, Badiul Alam Majumdar, head of the Electoral System Reform Commission, Justice Emdadul Haque of the Judicial Reform Commission, and Ifthekharuzzaman, head of the Anti-Corruption Commission Reform Commission.
