National flag not hoisted at several madrasas in Sonagazi on Independence Day
In Feni's Sonagazi Upazila, there have been allegations that several madrasas did not hoist the national flag on Independence Day, defying government instructions. At the same time, it is known that no formal programs were held anywhere.
Complaints from locals and on-site information showed that although the national flag was hoisted in educational institutions and government and private establishments in various areas, it was not done in many madrasas on Thursday (March 26).
The institutions that received complaints include Purba Baradholi Madinatul Ulum Dakhil Madrasa, Habibia Islamia Arabia Madrasa, Rashidiya Madrasa, Sonagazi Municipality's Rawjatul Ulum Rahmania Madrasa, Sonagazi Model Madrasa and Kadamtala Madinatul Ulum Nuria Madrasa.
Locals said that most of these institutions do not hoist the flag or hold formal programs on any national day, including Independence Day. There is also anger among the locals about this.
A local businessman said that the madrasas run on donations from the locals and money from the students, but they do not hoist the flag on National Day—this is sad.
Another student complained that many madrasas do not even have the necessary stands for hoisting the flag and that National Day activities are routinely ignored.
According to the law, according to the Bangladesh National Flag Rules, 1972 (amended 2010), hoisting the flag on National Day is mandatory in all educational institutions.
In this regard, Sonagazi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rigyan Chakma said that not hoisting the flag and not holding the program on National Day is a legal offense. The matter will be investigated and necessary action will be taken.
The local administration said that the complaints are being investigated and if evidence is found, action will be taken against the concerned institution.
