National, party flags hoisted at Awami League office in Bauphal

The national flag and the party flag of the banned Awami League have been hoisted at the party office in Bauphal, Patuakhali. The flags were raised late on Saturday night, May 31, in front of the Awami League office adjacent to Bauphal Press Club. The matter came to light on Sunday when photos and videos circulated on social media.

It is not yet known who raised the flags. During a visit around 12:00 pm on Sunday, the national flag was seen flying, but the party flag was not. However, a local resident said the party flag was also seen flying around 8:00 am, but he could not say who removed it or when.

Locals said the office has remained closed since the July uprising.

Bauphal Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sirajul Islam said he visited the spot around 10:00 am and saw no flags. Efforts are underway to identify who raised the flags at the locked office, and legal action will be taken against those involved.
