National players cannot be used in election campaigns: NSC

The National Sports Council (NSC) has warned that national team players must not be used, directly or indirectly, in any political or election campaign.

In a letter issued on Monday (November 24), the council emphasised that players are national assets and symbols of unity, and involving them in political activities could undermine the neutrality and integrity of sports.

The NSC noted attempts by some individuals to exploit players for political purposes ahead of the upcoming elections and urged all concerned to ensure players refrain from attending rallies or campaign events.

The council stressed that violating this directive could seriously damage the country’s sports environment.
