National Revolution and Solidarity Day today
The National Revolution and Solidarity Day that brought Ziaur Rahman to the center of state power is being observed today (Thursday).
On this day in 1975, the revolution of sepoy-people ended the turbulent situation that had been going on since August 15 of that year.
As a result of the fall of the Awami League regime through the student-people uprising, BNP is observing the day in a changed context after 17 years.
The Khandaker Mushtaq government, that came to power after the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family on August 15, 1975, was overthrown by a counter-coup led by Brigadier Khaled Musharraf on November 3. Ziaur Rahman, the heroic army chief of the liberation war, was put under house arrest from that day. Khaled Musharraf announced himself as the army chief after receiving promotion from Khandaker Moshtaq.
However, the soldiers freed Ziaur Rahman from captivity on the night of November 6. Revolutionary military organization loyal to Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal leader Colonel Abu Taher at this time supported General Zia and tried to maintain the party's scientific socialism. But Ziaur Rahman did not go that way and decided to establish a government.
On November 7, 1975, sepoys and people descended together on the streets of Dhaka. People saluted the sepoy revolution by garlanding army tanks. The countrymen heard the speech 'I am Zia speaking' on the radio. Later, Major General Zia consolidated himself in the state power. After November 7, he turned from a military ruler to a politician.
