Nationwide online NID services temporarily suspended
National Identity Card (NID) services across the country have been temporarily suspended due to a technical issue preventing access to the NID server. The disruption is caused by the failure to receive the One-Time Password (OTP) required to log into the system, leaving thousands of service seekers facing significant difficulties. Many have gathered at the Election Commission (EC) office from various parts of the country, waiting for assistance.
On Tuesday (13 May), ASM Humayun Kabir, Director General of the National Identity Registration Wing, confirmed the matter to the media.
“Our officials are unable to log into the server because the OTP required after entering the user ID and password is not being received,” said Humayun Kabir. “As a result, online services are currently suspended. However, biometric data collection and photo capturing activities are still ongoing. Once the OTP issue is resolved, all services will resume.”
He clarified that the server itself is not down. “The problem lies with the OTP service provider from whom we procured the service. They are experiencing system issues, and their team is currently working to fix it. Once resolved, normal service will resume,” he added.
According to several EC field officials, they have been unable to serve citizens since the morning due to the OTP issue. They were informed that the issue is expected to be resolved by midday.
