Following clashes between teachers and students at Dhaka College, the BCS General Education Association has declared a work abstention across all government colleges from Tuesday (October 14).

Association member secretary Dr. Md. Masud Rana Khan confirmed the decision on Monday afternoon (October 13), saying teachers will refrain from classes and observe a sit-in at their respective institutions.

BCS General Education Cadre president Prof. Dr. Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel said further programmes will be announced after October 15.

Terming the Dhaka College attack a “mob assault,” education cadre officials strongly condemned the incident and demanded justice.

They alleged that on Monday morning, a large group of outsiders entered the campus and attacked Associate Professor Md. Touhidur Rahman and several teachers and students.

The clash began around 9am after some students reportedly threatened the vice-principal. Later, when Prof. Rahman tried to calm the situation, he was verbally and physically assaulted.

The attackers also vandalised the teachers’ lounge before police intervened and rescued those trapped inside.
