Navy, Air Force to assist in upcoming election: Home Adviser
Members of the Navy and Air Force will join the Army and other security forces in maintaining law and order during the upcoming national parliamentary elections, Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced on Monday.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting at the Sylhet Deputy Commissioner's conference room at 2 PM, the adviser emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful and fair election.
Addressing the recent attack on Nurul Haque Nur, president of Gono Odhikar Parishad, Chowdhury described the incident as “unfortunate” and wished Nur a swift recovery.
In response to a question about the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) report on the illegal extraction of white stones, he noted that the ACC, as a government institution, is being held accountable for its findings. “The report is under review. If the allegations are proven true, action will be taken against those responsible. If found baseless, legal measures will be taken against the individuals involved in preparing the report,” he said.
Earlier in the day, the adviser visited the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Sylhet Sector Headquarters and the Sylhet Police Lines. He later inspected the Sylhet Cantonment and is scheduled to return to Dhaka in the evening.
