NBR revises low-tier cigarette price to Tk 65

The government has raised the maximum retail price of low-tier cigarettes by Tk 3, setting the price of a 10-stick pack at Tk 65.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) announced the revised price in a gazette notification signed by its acting chairman Ahsan Habib on Wednesday (September 16).

The decision came into effect following a recent cabinet approval of a proposal to further increase the price of low-tier cigarettes.

The latest notification changes only the price of low-tier cigarettes, while the rates for the other three tiers remain unchanged. The maximum retail price for a 10-stick pack is Tk 92 for mid-tier cigarettes, Tk 160 for high-tier cigarettes and Tk 210 or more for premium cigarettes.

In the 2026-27 budget, the price of low-tier cigarettes had already been raised from Tk 60 to Tk 62 per 10-stick pack. The latest increase brings the new maximum retail price to Tk 65.

The budget also raised the prices of mid-tier cigarettes from Tk 80 to Tk 92, high-tier cigarettes from Tk 140 to Tk 160, and premium cigarettes from Tk 185 to Tk 210 or more.

With the latest revision, the maximum retail prices for 10-stick cigarette packs now stand at Tk 65, Tk 92, Tk 160 and Tk 210 or more across the four tiers.
