NBR seizes two lockers belonging to Sheikh Hasina at Agrani Bank
The Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has seized two safety deposit lockers registered under the name of Sheikh Hasina at a branch of Agrani Bank in the capital.
The lockers, identified as numbers 751 and 753, were seized on Tuesday, based on confidential intelligence, according to CIC Director General Ahsan Habib, who confirmed the development to the media on Wednesday (September 17).
This action follows an earlier seizure on September 10, when authorities confiscated another locker belonging to Sheikh Hasina from the Motijheel branch of Pubali Bank. During that operation, two additional bank accounts were discovered—one holding a fixed deposit receipt (FDR) of Tk 12 lakh, and another with a balance of Tk 44 lakh. Both accounts have since been frozen.
Sources within the CIC and NBR have indicated that further inquiries are underway to determine whether Sheikh Hasina holds additional accounts or lockers in other financial institutions.
The NBR has stated that the investigation is part of a broader effort to ensure transparency and accountability in financial activities involving politically exposed persons (PEPs).
