NCP alleges attack on Nasiruddin Patwari's convoy in Sylhet, police deny incident

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has alleged that the vehicle carrying its Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari came under attack while returning from a political programme in Sylhet on Friday night (July 31). Police, however, have rejected the claim, saying no such incident occurred.

According to the party, the alleged attack took place around 10:45pm while the convoy was travelling back to Sylhet city from Jaintapur after concluding the party's "July Padajatra" programme.

Following the incident, Patwari wrote on his verified Facebook account that the convoy had been attacked in Sylhet and that two people were injured after the vehicle's windows were shattered.

A video circulating on social media shows a vehicle with a broken side window and what appears to be blood on the hand of a passenger inside. However, the authenticity of the footage, including how the damage occurred and where it was recorded, could not be independently verified.

Earlier in the day, NCP leaders, including Nasiruddin Patwari, Chief Organiser (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam, and Women's Wing Member Secretary Mahmuda Mitu, addressed rallies and participated in the party's "July March" programmes in Companiganj, Gowainghat and Jaintiapur.

The convoy reportedly left Jaintiapur for Sylhet city after the final rally amid heavy rainfall.

Rejecting the allegation, Jaintapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mahbubur Rahman Molla said no attack occurred within his jurisdiction.

He said police escorted the NCP leaders to the Jainta Gate following the programme and that the roads were largely deserted due to heavy rain.

Shah Paran Police Station OC Khandaker Md Mostafizur Rahman also said police had received no reports of any attack on the convoy.

As of now, no case or formal complaint has been filed in connection with the alleged incident.
