The National Citizen Party (NCP) Bandarban District Member Secretary Mohammad Erfanul Haque resigned from all party positions on Saturday (January 24), expressing frustration over the nomination of an outsider candidate in the constituency, and declared his support for the BNP and its chairman, Tarique Rahman.

In a Facebook post late Saturday, Erfanul Haque announced his resignation from all responsibilities, including his posts as NCP’s senior joint coordinator in Chattogram city and Bandarban district secretary, and formally from the party itself.

He criticised the party for failing to provide adequate organisational opportunities at the grassroots level and for making candidate nomination decisions that, in his view, disregarded local sentiment. “Nominating an outsider for the Bandarban constituency undermines the dignity and self-respect of the hill communities. Choosing someone who does not understand the realities and struggles of the hills is contrary to the feelings of the local population,” he wrote.

Erfanul Haque urged voters to support BNP candidate Sachin Prue Jeri in the upcoming election and confirmed that he would cast his vote for him.

When contacted, NCP’s Bandarban district president could not be reached for comment.

Meanwhile, NCP’s Bandarban-3 candidate and party joint secretary Abu Sayed Shah Sujauddin dismissed the allegations, calling the resignation part of “an old opponent conspiracy.” He claimed the outgoing district secretary had been largely inactive and under observation, and insisted that the resignation would have no impact on the electoral process.
