NCP candidate Akhtar files GD over 'death threats'
Complaints have been received that NCP candidate Akhtar Hossain, nominated by the 11-party alliance with the Water Lily Bud symbol from Rangpur-4 constituency (Kaunia-Pirgacha), has been threatened with death. He has filed a General Diary (GD) at Pirgacha Police Station regarding the incident.
Sources from the GD indicate that on Saturday, February 7, around 5:30 pm, while campaigning in Kishamat village of Chaola union in Pirgacha upazila, Akhtar Hossain received a call on his mobile from an unknown phone number. Upon answering, he was verbally abused with foul language and directly threatened with murder before the call was disconnected.
Concerned about his safety due to the incident, he filed a GD at the police station.
Meanwhile, in a video message on the same day, Akhtar Hossain confirmed the threat, saying, "We do not fear for our lives. Our electoral march cannot be stopped by intimidation."
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pirgacha Police Station, AKM Khandaker Muhibbul Islam, confirmed the GD and said the complaint is being taken seriously and necessary measures will be taken.
It is worth noting that Akhtar Hossain has faced similar allegations of death threats in the past as well.
