NCP central leader beaten, handed over to police

Local people have beaten up and handed over NCP central organizer Anwar Hossain, 38, to police station on charges of making various objectionable comments, including 'threats to death', against Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the Home Minister and the Water Resources Minister.

The incident took place at 8pm in Basabari Bazar area of ​​Sonapur union on Raipur-Lakshmipur regional highway in Lakshmipur on Saturday (May 30).

Police and local sources said that some angry people from Basabari Bazar area detained Anwar Hossain and beat him up. To bring the situation under control, the police brought him to Raipur police station. He is currently in police custody.

Ruhul Amin, 49, of Charbaga village of Sonapur union filed a case with Raipur police station, accusing Anwar and four others from the same area on Sunday afternoon (May 31).

The victim of the beating is Anwar Hossain, son of Mohammad Ali of Sonapur village in Sonapur union of Raipur upazila.

Some locals, who did not want to be named, said that Anwar was an active worker of the Awami League during the government. After the government fell on August 5, 2024, he joined the NCP and later made objectionable comments about leaders of various parties on Facebook.

Raipur police station OC Shahin Mia said that Anwar was rescued from public anger and brought to the police station. Preparations are underway to register a case against him under the ICT Act and send him to court.
