NCP convoy attacked in Sylhet, ‘Fake, Fake’ slogan chanted

A convoy carrying leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) came under attack in Golapganj of Sylhet, on Thursday afternoon, leaving one vehicle damaged. No injuries were reported.

The incident occurred around 2:45pm as NCP leaders, led by the party's Northern Region Chief Coordinator Sarjis Alam, were leaving Golapganj after meeting families of those killed during the July 2024 mass uprising.

According to local sources, the delegation had just concluded a discussion program at the Golapganj Municipality Auditorium and was heading to Kanaighat when a group attacked Sarjis Alam's vehicle near Noor Mansion, adjacent to the municipality gate.

Witnesses said a group of youths surrounded the convoy and chanted slogans such as "Fake, Fake" and "NCP is fake." During the confrontation, bricks were reportedly thrown at one of the vehicles, shattering its windows.

Following the incident, Sarjis Alam alleged in a Facebook post that "BNP-backed attackers" were behind the assault, claiming they vandalized the convoy and carried out a "violent attack" in Golapganj.

Local sources said activists of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) had gathered in the Golapganj Chowmuhani area before the NCP convoy arrived. They began chanting slogans against the party upon its arrival and continued protesting as the delegation left the venue.

Police later intervened, dispersed the crowd and escorted the NCP convoy safely out of Golapganj.

Golapganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Chhobed Ali confirmed the incident, saying no one was injured and the NCP leaders left the area safely under police protection.
