The National Citizen Party (NCP) has demanded the immediate arrest of Barrister Rumin Farhana, BNP’s Joint Secretary for International Affairs, following the attack on the Election Commission building by BNP supporters. The party also called for a reconstitution of the Election Commission, warning that failure to investigate the incident would prompt demands for the resignation of the entire commission.

At a press conference held on Sunday afternoon at the Election Commission building in Agargaon, NCP leaders condemned the attack and accused Rumin Farhana of orchestrating the violence.

Md. Ataullah, Joint Chief Organizer of NCP, said, “We were attacked under the leadership and directive of Rumin Farhana. The Election Commission failed to prevent the assault. Immediate arrest and legal action against her are imperative. Otherwise, we will demand the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner and all election commissioners.”

Hasnat Abdullah, NCP’s Chief Organizer for the Northern Region, further criticized Rumin Farhana, describing her as the BNP’s secretary for Awami League affairs. “We have sent the Honda goons involved in the election violence to India. Anyone engaged in terrorism, including Rumin Farhana and her supporters, will face similar consequences,” he warned.

Hasnat accused Farhana of enjoying extensive benefits from the Awami League over the past 15 years, stating, “She claims to have been a good person throughout these years, but she has taken full advantage of all kinds of privileges from the ruling party.”

Questioning the Election Commission’s role during the incident, Hasnat said, “The police acted as silent spectators, obstructing our party’s leaders and activists from entering the Commission building, while BNP activists were allowed free exit. The Election Commission has effectively become an office for a few political parties.”

He emphasized the need for a non-partisan, Bangladesh-centric Election Commission, free from right-wing or left-wing influences.

The NCP concluded by demanding the immediate reconstitution of the Election Commission to restore public trust.
