NCP fails to show minimum voters in 25 police stations, EC blocks registration

The Election Commission has blocked the National Citizens Party’s (NCP) bid for official registration after determining that it failed to meet several key requirements.

Despite submitting its application, NCP could not verify the presence of at least 200 voting members in 25 different upazilas or police stations—a fundamental criterion for party recognition.

The commission also flagged administrative omissions, noting rental agreements for district offices in Dhaka, Sylhet, Itna, Kishoreganj, and Haluaghat lacked accurate party names and addresses. Financial disclosures detailing fund sources and amounts were absent, the executive committee’s decision letter was unsigned on its final page, and the party’s constitution did not outline candidate nomination procedures involving local panels.

Crucially, the application did not include a mandatory certificate confirming that none of its members had convictions tied to the 1972 Collaborator Order or the International Crimes Tribunal Act. The EC has asked NCP convener Nahid Islam to submit corrected documentation by August 3.

Until these issues are remedied, the party’s registration remains suspended.
