NCP gets spotlight on debut in global media
The formation of the National Citizen Party (NCP), led by the youth who spearheaded the mass uprising in Bangladesh, has garnered significant attention from international media outlets.
Prominent global news organizations, including Al Jazeera, Bloomberg, AP, and Reuters, have reported extensively on the party's debut.
Reuters reported with the headline: 'Bangladeshi students form political party after ousting Prime Minister Hasina'. Bloomberg News emphasized with the headline, 'Bangladeshi students who ousted Hasina have formed a new political party'.
The report noted that the leaders of last year's student-led protests, which led to the ousting Sheikh Hasina, have now established a political party, signaling a fierce competition ahead of the country’s national elections, likely to be held by December.
The NCP will be led by Nahid Islam, a key figure in organising the protests that forced Sheikh Hasina to flee the country in August of the previous year.
AP News also covered the development with the headline: 'Bangladeshi students who led the protests that ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have formed a new political party'. Similarly, Al Jazeera reported that the students behind the protests have come together to form a new party to contest the upcoming elections.
The NCP's formation comes just ahead of Bangladesh's national elections, which are expected within the next year. At a rally held on Friday on Manik Mia Avenue, near the capital's parliament building, NCP leaders outlined their vision. They expressed their commitment to building a unified nation by promoting national unity, transparency, good governance, and an independent foreign policy, while also opposing corruption.
The NCP's emergence adds a new dynamic to Bangladesh's political landscape, with the party promising to challenge the existing political order and bring about significant change in the country's governance.
