NCP leader threatens to 'take away bricks of police station' standing before OC's room

After an attack on a leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP) in Fatullah, Narayanganj, the party's Narayanganj district committee convener, Jubair Sardar, has threatened to "take away the bricks of the police station" if any party activist is attacked again. He was heard making the remark while addressing leaders and activists standing in front of the Officer-in-Charge's (OC) room inside Fatullah Model Police Station on Monday night. A 17-second video of his speech has spread on social media. The video was posted by NCP leaders and activists themselves.

In the video, Jubair Sardar can be heard saying, "I am Jubair Sardar, convener of Narayanganj NCP. If anyone touches even one of my activists, I will take a life for a life. If the blood of one of my leaders or activists is shed once more, I will take away even the bricks of the police station." He was addressing leaders and activists in an agitated voice at the time.

Fatullah Model Police Station OC Mohammad Mahbub Alam said he was inside his room at that time. Asked whether he heard such remarks by Jubair Sardar, the OC said, "I have not heard whether anyone made such remarks. I was inside then. But if anyone has made such remarks, it is not good practice. They cannot make such remarks inside a police station while holding a responsible position."

The OC further said, "If the law and order situation is disrupted due to such remarks, the higher authorities will take action accordingly."

Meanwhile, around 8pm on Monday, NCP district committee's joint organising secretary Tawhidul Islam was attacked in the Baktaballi Bazar area of Fatullah Police Station. NCP leaders alleged that local BNP leaders and activists attacked Tawhid on the instructions of Baktaballi union BNP organising secretary Halim Azad over his remarks about illegal sand extraction on the banks of the Dhaleshwari river.

After the attack, NCP and its affiliated organisations' leaders and activists took position at Fatullah Model Police Station. They brought out a procession in front of the police station and chanted various slogans against BNP leaders and activists. Later at night, local MP for Narayanganj-4 constituency, Abdullah Al Amin, went to the police station.

In the incident, Md Hasan, organising secretary of the National Juboshakti district committee, filed a case with Fatullah Model Police Station against 16 BNP leaders and activists, including Halim Azad, on charges of attempted murder. However, OC Mohammad Mahbub Alam said no one has been arrested so far after the case was filed.
