NCP leader's hanging body recovered from his home

Police have recovered the hanging body of an NCP leader from his home in the upazila headquarters of Dharampasha in Sunamganj. The body of the leader, Md Shahin Kadir (48), was recovered from the Paschimpara village of the upazila around 9:30pm on Thursday.

Shahin Kadir was the son of the late Sunu Kadir of that village. He was the joint convener of the National Citizen Party's Dharampasha upazila branch.

Speaking with police and family members, it was learned that around 8pm, Shahin entered a room on the veranda of his home and closed the door from inside. Around 8:30pm, family members called him for food but received no response.

At one point, family members broke down the door and entered the room, where they found Shahin's hanging body with a towel wrapped around his neck and tied to a rafter. Later, police went to the scene around 9:30pm after being informed and recovered the body.

Shahin's nephew, Asif Ahmed, said his uncle had long been suffering from spinal problems. He often suffered from pain. He said Shahin did not get much benefit even after treatment.

Azizul Haque, convener of the National Citizen Party's Dharampasha upazila branch, said they cannot understand why Shahin Kadir took such a decision. Party leaders and activists are saddened by his death.

Sub-Inspector Rafiqul Islam of Dharampasha Police Station said the body was recovered and a surathal report was prepared. Primarily, the incident appears to be a suicide. Family members said Shahin had long been suffering from spinal problems. However, the exact cause of death cannot be confirmed before the autopsy. Necessary legal measures will be taken over the incident.
