Police have again blocked the convoy of the National Citizen Party (NCP) at the entrance to Bahubal upazila in Habiganj, defying barricades and proceeding from Sreemangal.

They were stopped in the Muchai area of Bahubal on Wednesday afternoon.

NCP leaders subsequently sat down on the road, remaining there in the rain for about an hour.

Habiganj Superintendent of Police Mohammad Tarek Mahmud said Section 144 has been imposed in Habiganj. As a result, NCP leaders have been barred from entering Habiganj for security reasons.

Earlier, NCP leaders had broken through police barricades in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar, to set off for Habiganj. Police had initially stopped them in the Cha-Kanya area of Sreemangal on Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly before 4pm on Wednesday, NCP Convener and Member of Parliament Nahid Islam, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Chief Organiser for the Northern Region Sarjis Alam, Chief Organiser for the Southern Region and MP Hasnat Abdullah, and MP for the Reserved Women's Seat Dr Mahmuda Mitoo, along with several others, departed for Habiganj from the Moulvibazar Circuit House. Their convoy was stopped in the Cha-Kanya area around 4:30pm .
