NCP motorcade reportedly attacked in Thakurgaon

A motorcade of the National Citizen Party (NCP), participating in the July political march, came under attack on Friday afternoon near the Tangon Bridge area in Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila.

According to party sources, the incident occurred as the convoy was en route to Pirganj after completing a scheduled program in the district town. After offering prayers at the Art Gallery Mosque, NCP leaders and activists resumed their journey. Shortly afterward, an inter-district bus allegedly rammed into a microbus in the convoy.

Following the collision, NCP members stopped the vehicle to inquire about the cause. At that moment, a group of five to six individuals reportedly launched a physical attack on them. One party activist and the microbus driver sustained minor injuries. The assailants also took the vehicle’s key, which was later returned.

NCP leaders claim the attack was premeditated, with the intention of assassinating senior party officials by staging a deliberate accident. However, they allege the attackers mistakenly targeted the wrong vehicle, leading to a follow-up physical assault on central party figures.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident. The NCP has demanded an immediate and impartial investigation.
