The National Citizens' Party (NCP) has called for constitutional reform in the next elected parliament, based on the outcome of a proposed referendum on the July National Charter.

The party proposes the revised document be named “Bangladesh Constitution, 2026.”

At a press conference held Thursday (Oct 16) at the party’s temporary central office in Banglamotor, NCP Convener Nahid Islam announced three key demands.

These include holding a referendum before the national election on implementing the July National Charter, publishing the final text of the implementation order and referendum question in advance, and enacting the “Bangladesh Constitution, 2026” in the new parliament if the referendum is approved.

The NCP claims that if the public approves the charter through the referendum, any "note of dissent" will be rendered void.

They also stated that Dr. Muhammad Yunus, as Chief Adviser, would issue a draft implementation order reflecting the people’s sovereign will.

NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain and other central leaders were present at the briefing.
