Nahid Islam, convenor of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has stated that the party is currently preparing for the election independently. However, he said the party will keep the option of alliance open if there is political and ideological alignment. He also announced that a preliminary list of candidates will be published by the 15th of this month.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday afternoon after meeting the family members of martyred July Movement fighter Gazi Salah Uddin at Godnail in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, Nahid Islam said, “An understanding or alliance may be formed on political and ideological grounds. For instance, if anyone expresses solidarity with our reformist line in the July Charter, then a decision on alliance may be taken. But for now, we are preparing for the election independently.”

Nahid said, “By the 15th of this month, we will publish the preliminary list of our candidates. We are working with the goal of contesting all 300 constituencies.”

He said, “Those who played a leading role in the anti-fascist movement will be honoured—NCP will not nominate candidates in those constituencies. On the other hand, in the case of positive and credible leaders, candidates bearing the ‘Shapla Kali’ symbol will be fielded.”

Expressing deep grief over the death of Gazi Salah Uddin, he demanded that the government ensure proper and long-term medical treatment for the injured fighters of the July Movement, otherwise, unexpected deaths and suffering will continue. He said, “As long as the suffering of the fighters is not resolved, our list of martyrs will keep growing.” He added that the government should provide proper support to the injured fighters and their families.
