NCP seeks ‘Shapla’ symbol in upcoming elections

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has applied to the Election Commission (EC) for the allocation of ‘Shapla’ (water lily) as its electoral symbol, proposing white or red variations if the national symbol poses legal barriers.

In a letter signed by Convener Md. Nahid Islam, the party argued that the existing regulations under the 2008 electoral code should be amended to accommodate the request.

NCP representatives claimed they were earlier assured by the EC that the symbol would be included in the list of 150, but later learned it was excluded for being a national emblem.

The party also urged the commission to revise the rules to ensure equal opportunity and fairness for all contesting parties in future elections.
