NCP suspends Bogura Organizer amid kidnapping, ransom allegations

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has suspended its Bogura district organizing secretary, Showkat Imran, after police filed a case accusing him of kidnapping a bank official for ransom.

Additionally, the party issued him a show-cause notice demanding a written explanation.

A letter from the NCP's central convening committee cited "moral misconduct" and conduct that breached organizational discipline as grounds for the suspension, giving Imran two working days to respond.

M S A Mahmud, convener of the NCP's Bogura unit, said the decision was driven both by the criminal case and by the circulation on social media of an objectionable video involving Imran and a woman.

The case stems from a complaint filed at Bogura Sadar Police Station last Sunday night by Ashraful Islam, a junior trainee officer at Islami Bank's Naogaon branch, who named Imran and three others as accused.

Islam alleges he was ambushed near the Tinmatha railgate area last Saturday afternoon while walking home after withdrawing cash from an Islami Bank ATM near Bogura Government Azizul Haque College. According to his complaint, Imran and his associates blocked his path, dragged him into a nearby student hostel, beat him, and robbed him at gunpoint of 82,000 taka, two mobile phones and an ATM card.

Imran has rejected the allegations, countering that Islam ran online scams through fake Facebook profiles impersonating women. He said he had merely arranged to inspect Islam's phones after a separate complaint that Islam took 25,000 taka from an acquaintance — money Imran claims Islam later returned.
