NCP to propose lowering age of voters, MP aspirants
The National Citizen Party (NCP) is set to submit its primary reform proposals to the National Consensus Commission on Sunday recommending that the minimum age for MP aspirants be lowered to 23 while voting age to 16.
Sarwar Tushar, NCP joint convener, said this while briefing journalists on this party’s focal point for reform coordination at the party's Rupayan Tower office in Banglamotor.
He said: "The reform recommendations will be submitted to the National Consensus Commission tomorrow (Sunday). The NCP will propose to lowering the voting age to 16 and the age of candidates to 23."
Sarwar Tushar said that the Consensus Commission has said that 111 of the 166 reform proposals can be implemented without discussion.
However, the NCP claimed that further discussion is needed on these 111 recommendations.
The Jatiya Nagorik Party leader demanded that a new constitution be written, stating that the constitution is no longer valid after the mass uprising.
Sarwar said, "The NCP believes that the next election should be held by the Constituent Assembly. "After completing the constitutional reform work and after a certain period of time, this Constituent Assembly will be transformed into a Legislative Assembly."
