After the Chief Adviser returned from the United Nations General Assembly, the National Citizen Party (NCP) expressed regret over misconduct with journalists and instructed organisational action against those responsible if evidence is found. The statement was issued on Thursday (2 October).

The NCP said, “Following the July 24 uprising, a ‘Bangla Spring’ is under way across South Asian countries. Similarly, we have witnessed Gen Z rise up against corruption and discrimination in some African nations. These events carry a new message in global politics.”

The statement added that Member Secretary Akhter Hossain and Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr Tasnim Jara joined the UNGA as part of the Chief Adviser’s delegation. They discussed Gen Z’s political emergence and aspirations worldwide, highlighting the ideas of the ‘Bangla Spring’ at various forums.

The NCP noted that a press conference had been planned upon their return to share achievements, opportunities and challenges. Instead, allegations of misconduct by NCP members with journalists surfaced, which the party termed “unfortunate and condemnable”.

The party said the matter is being investigated, with those responsible being identified. Action will be taken against them once proven.

The NCP emphasised that such incidents are never acceptable. “Journalists are our companions in the march for a new Bangladesh. This unfortunate incident is not desirable in our cordial relations. We will remain cautious in future and work to improve mutual relations.”

The party thanked journalists for standing by the people since the uprising and expressed hope that they would continue to do so.
