NCP won't participate elections without new constitution: Akhtar Hossain
The National Citizens Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain has said that the party will not participate in the upcoming national elections without implementing the new constitution.
"Holding elections without implementing the new constitution and the July Charter would be meaningless," he said.
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s temporary central office in Bangla Motor on Saturday (August 23), Akhtar Hossain stressed that the Constituent Assembly elections are necessary to provide the country with a new constitutional framework.
He warned that elections conducted under the existing constitution could risk the return of facism.
He said that while elections could be held in February or earlier, their structure must be clear. "The NCP is ready to participate if the elections are held on the basis of the July Charter or through consensus on a new constitution," he added.
Akhtar Hossain also criticized other political parties for focusing only on parliamentary polls, emphasizing that constitutional reforms should not be postponed to the next parliament.
