Leaders of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) were once again attacked and their vehicles vandalized as they were leaving a rally on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 2:45 PM near the launch terminal in front of Gopalganj Government College. The sudden attack caused panic among the participants and bystanders.

Law enforcement and military personnel quickly intervened to restore order at the scene.

Following the rally, NCP leaders were traveling towards Madaripur via Tekerhat when the attack took place, forcing them to scatter in different directions.

Earlier, chanting the slogan "Joy Bangla," members of the banned Chhatra League stormed the NCP's rally stage. On Wednesday (16 July) afternoon, they suddenly arrived with a procession and climbed onto the stage. During the incident, they vandalized sound boxes, microphones, and chairs, and also physically assaulted NCP leaders and activists present at the scene

Meanwhile that morning, supporters of the Awami League and Chhatra League blocked the Ghonapara-Tekerhat road in Gandhiashur, Sadar Upazila, by felling trees. Attempts to negotiate with them led to an attack on the Upazila Nirbahi Officer’s (UNO) vehicle.

Several people were injured during the clashes, confirmed UNO M. Rokibul Hasan. He said the attacks were intended to disrupt the NCP’s program. “Supporters first attacked the police and later vandalized my vehicle,” he said.

Police also reported damage and arson against their vehicles earlier in the day, blaming the banned student group.

Gopalganj Sadar Police OC Mir Md. Sajedur Rahman said the attacks aimed to prevent central NCP leaders from arriving for the rally.

The authorities are investigating the incidents amid rising political tensions in the area.
