Hasnat Abdullah, chief organizer of the National Citizens Party (NCP) for the southern region, stirred controversy at a rally held at the municipal park grounds in Gopalganj by shouting the slogan “Mujibbad Murdabad.”

The rally, part of the nationwide July foot march, drew supporters from across the region.

Addressing the crowd, Hasnat accused Sheikh Hasina of neglecting Gopalganj. “If she truly cared about this district, she would have returned here instead of traveling to India,” he said, accusing her of selfishness and indifference towards the local populace beyond her family circle.

He further alleged that the ruling Awami League government has intentionally isolated Gopalganj from the rest of Bangladesh, endangering the future of the next generation.

Hasnat appealed to the people of Gopalganj to unite, emphasizing that “Gopalganj is Bangladesh, as are Feni and Bogura. We will fight for equal rights across all 64 districts.”

He called on residents to support the NCP’s quest to build a just and equitable Bangladesh. “We have freed you from oppressive governance, and together we will work towards justice,” he stated.

Concluding the event, Hasnat Abdullah led the crowd in chanting, “Down with Mujibism,” vowing to dismantle what he called “the stronghold of Mujibism” in Gopalganj.
